The Manchester Food Co-op was a finalist in the Tory C. Marandos Foundation 2011 Entreneurship Challenge conducted by the Southern New Hampshire University Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. This competition started with a two-page concept paper. The semi-finalists were chosen from the 25 entries received. Each semi-finalist submitted a five-page business plan. Five finalists were chosen from the ten semi-finalists. Each finalist made a ten-minute presentation before the five judges and a few other contest officials.
The Food Co-op, as one of the finalists, won a plaque, a one-year gold membership in the Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, attendance for two people at up to ten seminars at the Center, attendance for two people at up to two Kauffman courses, a subscription to the CESI monthly newsletter, two one-hour counseling sessions per month, and membership in Accelerator 54, a program through the Center. Other finalists included Thermyos, Inc., a green technology startup building intelligent home climate control system; Relaunch Career Associates, and Karma Balm. The winner of the $5,000 award was Blue2Green, LLC.
