The grassroots effort continues! Tonight the Manchester Food Co-op initiative held a Food Co-op 101 training session to help to foster local interest for a member-owned food cooperative right here in Manchester! To a packed room, Josh Bourasssa, customer service manager, of the Concord Cooperative Market in Concord, NH educated us in the basic principles of a cooperative, including a fun on-the-spot quiz on the forefather of the American cooperative. Can you guess who?
The session was entertaining as well as informational as Josh not only reviewed the way things work in Concord, but shared facts and myths from other cooperatives. Did you know that REI, the Associated Press and Ace Hardware on the the cooperative bandwagon?
Manchester Food Coop coordinator Veronica Kamerman also spoke of the importance of fostering a sense of community in Manchester, challenging the group to rally a total of 2,000 members to the cause by the middle of 2010 with a very interesting contest.
